Theodore P. “Ted” Rusnak purchased B & B Distributors, Inc. in 1980 and acquired several other local distributorship to add to the flagship Anheuser-Busch brands.
Those purchases included Northwest Distributing, Watkins Distributing and Coors Distributing in 1994. In May of 1995, B & B Distributors, Inc. relocated to its current location at 6715 E. Mission Avenue.
In September of 2002, the Company grew again to include the Anheuser-Busch distribution rights in the Tri-Cities and Yakima. In 2004, Anheuser-Busch distributorship in Ellensburg, Walla Walla, Pullman, Washington and Lewiston/Moscow, Idaho were added to the geographic footprint of the Company. Following these acquisitions, the Company changed its name to King Beverage, Inc. In February of 2005, the distribution point in Chehalis, Washington became a member of the King Beverage family and in October of 2011, the Lewiston/Moscow distribution rights were sold by the Company.
Today, the KBI geographic footprint includes four distribution points in Spokane, Union Gap, Pasco and Chehalis and employs more than 200 people.
King Beverage is active with the Washington Beer & Distributors Association (WBWDA) and the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) making annual visits to legislators in Olympia and Washington, D.C. All KBI distribution points participate in local festivities and events, many that benefit their respective charities for children, cancer and other fundraising.
The Spokane distribution point participates in events benefiting Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, Ronald McDonald House, and the Mark Rypien Foundation. The Yakima distribution point events benefit East Valley Community Enhancement Association, Yakima Greenway Association, Yakima Scholarship Funds and others.Tri-Cities events benefit Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Hispanic school sponsorships, West Richland Chamber of Commerce, various educational associations, Cowboys Against Child Abuse (Walla Walla) and the annual Tri-Cities Boat Races benefiting the Tri-Cities community.
The Chehalis distribution point partners with Twin Cities Sertoma (est. 1912) on many events that benefit the Chehalis area communities. Each distribution point also sponsors local sporting venues, one-time and/or annual community events.
King Beverage provides various resources to retail partners, community events and education establishments on awareness of alcohol responsibility. Programs include “Designate a Driver”, “Family Talk About Drinking”, “Server Training” and many others that contribute to our ongoing community outreach commitment and the promotion of responsible drinking.
